Q: Am I allowed to remain on campus during the break?
A: Yes, you are allowed to remain on campus and will still have MavCard access to your building and room. No Form is required for you to fill out during break.
Q: Will my meal plan still work?
A: Meal plans will not be active, however, MavMoney will still be active at open campus eateries.

Q: Are there any other campus resources available for food?
A: CMU has three food pantries on campus. You can visit Lowell Heiny Hall Room 141, Tomlinson Library or the Hamilton Rec Center Lobby.
Q: Will RA's still be on campus?
A: Yes! RA's will still be available for any lockouts or incidents they can assist with on campus. You can find your RA on call number here. Please note: RAs will not handle any packages or mail so be sure to pick up any packages before the break.
Q: Will Residence Life be open during the break?
A: Our office is closed during the weekends and will be closed on November 26th and 27th.
Q: Am I allowed to remain on campus during the break?
A: Students who plan to stay on campus during the Winter Break must complete the Winter Break Stay Form located in their Maverick Housing.
Q: When is deadline to request Winter Break Housing?
A: The deadline for students to request for Winter Break Housing is Friday, December 11th. You will also need to have your MavCard encoded by Friday, December 11th as well if you plan to stay.
Q: When do I have to move out of my building?
A: Residence Halls will close at 12:00 pm on Friday, December 11th.
Q: Do I have to do anything before I leave for break?
A: Ensure your room/suite is properly cleaned and take the following steps below

Close and lock all windows and balcony doors.

Close window coverings.

Leave mini-fridges plugged in

Straighten and clean your room.

Take valuables with you or lock them up.

Empty refrigerators and dispose of all trash and recycling.

Set the thermostat to 65°F.

Lock your door.
Q: What if I do not plan to return for Spring 2027?
A: If you do not plan to return for Spring 2027, please ensure you submit your Spring 2027 exemption form in your Maverick Housing. If approved, students not returning for Spring must complete the following steps:
- Remove all personal belongings from your room
- Complete a checkout with your RA- sign up sheets will be posted by their door
- Turn in your room key and mailbox key
- Failure to checkout properly will result in a improper checkout fine

A: Residence Life Staff will be limited during the Winter Break. The Residence Life Office will be closed from Friday, December 25th through Friday, January 1st.
Q: When can I return from the break?
A: Students can return starting January 23rd-24th from 11:00 am to 2:00 PM. Students who return prior to January 23rd and did not complete the Winter Break stay form will be fined $200.
