Assistive Technology Guidance
To meet student text-to-speech needs, EAS contracts with ReadSpeaker to deliver assistive technology across the learning management system, D2L, as well as for other content students need read aloud. Below are training videos for navigating the various tools produced by ReadSpeaker. Students can also request an individual training session to build confidence in using these tools.
Accessing the ReadSpeaker Tools
ReadSpeaker in D2L
ReadSpeaker is embedded in D2L so no separate account or login is necessary to utilize the text-to-speech or other accessibility features. Simply look for the "Listen" button on every page with content to begin using this assistive technology. Also in D2L, is the docReader which allows documents embedded in D2L to be read aloud - look for the Open with docReader button or speaker icon.
TextAid
TextAid by ReadSpeaker is a separate application found in D2L that opens a separate site for students to upload documents into for text-to-speech and other accessibility features. Accessing TextAid via D2L will create the account for students so no additional login steps are required. Students can also find the web extension within TextAid to have web content read aloud. Use the following information to locate TextAid within D2L.
