The SHRM Learning System Prep course is embedded in the Bachelor of Business Administration Human Resource Management Degree. The prep course is included in CMU’s senior capstone course, HRMA 478. Beyond the tuition for the capstone course there is no additional cost to students to complete the prep program, thanks to generous fundraising efforts.

About the Prep Course

The SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge® (SHRM BASK®), represents the evolution of the SHRM Competency Model by further defining the knowledge areas in addition to the behavioral competencies. The SHRM BASK was developed through a series of large-scale research studies that incorporated the viewpoints of thousands of HR professionals from around the world. It was most recently updated in 2025, and now includes nine behavioral competencies as well as one technical competency.

Who teaches the course?

Dr. Christi Sanders Via, SPHR, SHRM-SCP is an accomplished human resources educator, scholar and practitioner with more than two decades of experience in both higher education and municipal HR leadership. She serves as Associate Professor of Human Resource Management and MBA Director at Colorado Mesa University where she also coordinates the HR concentration for the BBA Program. Sanders Via designs innovative HR curricula, spearheads fundraising initiatives to support student access to SHRM certification and developed a professional certificate in HR.
