Orientation for Students

Whether you’re a first-time freshman entering college after high school, a transfer student bringing credit from another institution with you or an adult learner returning to college, we want to help you feel well prepared for life at Colorado Mesa University.

New Freshmen

CMU’s Orientation is a day-long program that will acclimate you to CMU by providing informational sessions and class registration advising, help you start connecting with other students and get you excited about becoming a Maverick. We’ll help you accomplish everything you need to take care of before the first day of class.

After the morning informational fair and welcome message, students and parents will be on different schedules throughout the day. You and a group of your peers will be led by an orientation leader to various informational sessions and activities, then faculty advisors will help you establish the schedule for your first semester. At the end of the day, you’ll meet up with your family again for an afternoon informational fair and to check out.

Transfer Students

We understand that transferring from another institution to complete your education can be challenging. You are a transfer student if you have never attended CMU and have taken college-level courses since graduating from high school or earning a GED.

As a transfer student, you are strongly encouraged, but not required, to attend Orientation. If you register for a session at least three weeks in advance, your transfer evaluation will be ready on the program date. If you do not attend, please contact the Center for Transfer Services at 970.248.1232 for assistance.
