Follow the steps below to apply for federal aid as a graduate student via the FAFSA.
Complete the FAFSA
Colorado Mesa University’s school code: 001358
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the federal government’s application to determine financial aid eligibility for most types of financial aid. Applications can be filled out online. You will need to fill out a FAFSA each year in order to renew your financial aid.
-
Sign up for your FSA ID
This is a secure way to confirm your identity and sign your FAFSA electronically. Graduate students are considered independent students and will not need parental information. You will use the same FSA ID each year to complete the application.
-
Complete and submit your FAFSA
Login using your student FSA ID username and password and begin the FAFSA. If you have already submitted a FAFSA at another school, be sure to list Colorado Mesa University in order for us to receive your information. Our school code is 001358.
Complete Additional Loan Requirements
Once you have filled out the FAFSA, you may need to complete additional steps for your loans to disburse.
You may have to do Loan Counseling, Master Promissory Notes, and/or a Graduate PLUS Application.
Check if you were selected for verification
In some cases, a student’s FAFSA may be selected for verification by the US Department of Education. Go to MAVzone to check if you were selected for verification.
If you are selected for verification, your financial aid offer will not be packaged until the verification is completed.
Review and accept your financial aid offer
Now that your FAFSA is processed, you will receive an offer from the Financial Aid office. Please check the offer to make sure that your graduate program start semester is correct.
If no other documentation is requested, first time students will receive an offer letter or email in addition to being able to view their offer online. Returning students will view their offer online.
NOTE: The calculation for the financial aid offer is complete and correct, based on the information you provided in your FAFSA. Financial aid offer may be subject to change due to changes in your financial, academic, enrollment status and/or changes in the availability of funds.
