Rowdy Wranglers

The mission of the Rowdy Wranglers is to educate the CMU community about the organization while strengthening campus and community spirit throught engagement with CMU's live mascot Rowdy. Guided by CMU values, the wranglers dedicate extensive training, preparation, and teamwork to ensure Rowdy's presence is safe, ethical, and meaningful as an undeniable member of the CMU community.

Get to know our live mascots!

Rowdy I was a corriente steer from New Mexico, who ran from 2016 to 2024. In his prime, he was the heaviest live mascot ran in the entire NCAA. Rowdy I now lives his life in Loma, CO, where he spent his time with his friends, a horse and an alpaca. For nearly a decade, Rowdy I inspired both students and community members from the Grand Valley and set a lasting legacy for this organization.

Rowdy II is the current live mascot for CMU. He is a Angus-Longhorn Cross steer and was born in July of 2024. He has been running for the Mavericks since August 2025. Rowdy II is local, coming from the Blue Spoon Ranch in Hotchkiss, Colorado. His cross breed gives him unique coloring, and shorter horns than his Longhorn counterpart. He hopes to spread the Maverick Spirit for CMU for years to come.
