Each year CMU Geosciences hosts a hiking field trip to Ouray, Colorado. All 1st year students are invited! You do not need to be a geology major!

First year students can sign up on a first come, first served basis at the Geosciences Program table in the University Center.

Come on this free, day hike to meet some new friends, enjoy the mountains, and learn a little about the geology of the San Juan Mountains. 

This fun-filled trip will introduce students to the breathtaking scenery of the San Juan Mountains, the fascinating science of geology, the geology program, and geology faculty & students.

We will meet on the CMU campus, and then drive to Ouray. Free transportation is provided! After the hike, Geosciences faculty and the student Geology Club will host a free picnic lunch!

Students must sign a waiver during sign-up. Students under the age of 18 MUST have the waiver signed by a parent or guardian in advance and should contact one of us for a waiver form:
