MBA Admission Requirements

MBA applications are accepted throughout the year with admissions decisions made shortly after the receipt of a completed admissions package.  Upon approval, students may start the MBA program Fall or Spring semester, however, completed packages must be received at least 45 days prior to the start of the first semester. Students interested in the 3+2 program can visit for more information.

Admissions Checklist

  1.  Application
    • Create a CMUconnect account and submit the graduate student application.
    • $50 Application Fee is required to complete the application
    • Application deadlines: 
      • July 5, 2019 for a Fall 2019 start
      • December 7, 2019 for a Spring 2020 start 
      • July 1, 2020 for a Fall 2020 start
      • December 11, 2020 for a Spring 2021 start
  2. Request official transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities.
    • Possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Have a GPA of 3.0 or better from the most recent 60 credit hours of course work earned towards a bachelor degree and a GPA of 3.0 or better from prior graduate work.
    • Official transcripts must be sent directly from the college or university to Nichelle Chandler, Graduate Coordinator, 1100 North Ave, Grand Junction, CO 81501, or
  3.  Submit remaining supplemental items through CMUconnect.
    1.  GRE Test Scores
      • Register at to schedule an appointment for the GRE.
      • GRE waivers are available for those who have substantial managerial experience.  In order to obtain the waiver, please submit your current resume along with your admissions packet for review by the MBA Admissions committee.  In addition to the resume, ensure you are able to substantiate your managerial experience within your Personal Essay.
    2.  Two Letters of Recommendation
      • Two recommendations: one professional and one academic.
      • A recommendation form, not a formal letter, is required. The form is available through CMUconnect.
    3.  Personal Essay
      • 750 word essay: indicating reasons for seeking a Master of Business Administration degree including professional and/or career goals and pertinent past work experience.  The minimum length is 750 words, submitted as MS Word document with 1” margins, 12 pt. font and a cover page which includes the name of applicant and date.

Leveling Courses 

Leveling Courses provide a foundation for success in the MBA program.  Applicants who enter the program with an undergraduate degree in business come prepared with business knowledge from these courses.  Non-business majors are encouraged, but not required, to prepare for their MBA experience by taking the following courses.  While each of these courses is offered by CMU, additional delivery methods are available, including online instruction.

Admission to the MBA program is open to anyone holding the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree, in any field of study, from an accredited institution.
