Undergraduate Nursing Programs at Colorado Mesa University
Colorado Mesa University (CMU) offers students a unique opportunity to progress through multiple levels of nursing licensure. CMU gives opportunities for students to earn an entry-level license, enter the workforce, and then return to continue their education.
Graduates of CMU nursing programs are eligible to apply to take the applicable national board licensure examination.
- Practical Nursing (PN) graduates are eligible to apply for the NCLEX-PN to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing graduates and graduates of any Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs are eligible to apply for the NCLEX-RN to become Registered Nurses (RNs).
Program Options:
Practical Nursing (PN)
Available on both the Grand Junction and Montrose campuses. The PN certificate is the entry point to nursing licensure and prepares students to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). Completing this certificate also allows students to progress to the LPN-BSN program.
LPN to BSN (LPN-BSN)
Available on both the Grand Junction and Montrose campuses. Graduates are eligible for RN licensure.
Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS)
Offered only on the Montrose campus. Graduates are eligible for RN licensure and may continue their education through the online RN-BSN program.
RN to BSN (RN-BSN)
Offered online for licensed RNs who want to complete their bachelor's degree.
Traditional BSN (BSNt)
Offered only on the Grand Junction campus. Prepares students for RN licensure.

Policy for Biology, Math, and Statistics Grade Requirement:
Beginning Fall 2027, students who receive a grade below C for a biology, math, or statistics prerequisite course more than two times within a 3-year period will be ineligible to apply to any Department of Health Sciences program. All biology, math, and statistics prerequisite courses must be passed with a C or higher by the third attempt to be eligible to apply. Please connect with your academic advisor for future guidance.
Advising
During the spring and fall semesters, the Department of Health Sciences offers group advising sessions. Please check the main Department of Health Sciences' website for dates/times/locations of the Group Advising sessions. Once you've attended a group advising session, if you have more specific questions, you are encouraged to contact your Primary Advisor (listed in MAVzone) to schedule an appointment.
Admit/ReAdmit Post Dismissal Statement
A) A student dismissed from a Department of Health Sciences program for behavioral, safety or academic dishonesty reasons is not eligible to apply/reapply to any Department of Health Sciences' program(s) for a period of five years from the dismissal date.
B) Students may be eligible to apply/reapply in accordance with program requirements after five years but must retake all nursing courses (NURS) if they are readmitted.
C) This does not apply to a student who has withdrawn because of an emergency hardship as defined in the Colorado Mesa University Catalog and the "Maverick Guide".
