Applying to the ITL Graduate Certificate Program

Transcript Evaluation

To determine if leveling courses are needed, a transcript evaluation must be completed prior to applying.

  1. Send copies of your (unofficial) transcripts to itl@coloradomesa.edu
  2. Indicate which program you are interested in: Elementary; Secondary (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, or Spanish) or K12 Physical Education.
  3. Retain a copy of the evaluation to upload with your ITL Application.

ITL Master of Arts in Education 

After obtaining licensure and the ITL Graduate Certificate, ITL students may pursue the additional graduate coursework to complete the Master of Arts in Education degree. See the ITL Program page for more information.

Application timeline

  • March 15th - Application Materials Deadline; March 1st - priority deadline for field placement
  • April - Candidate review process and notification of admission status
  • May - Leveling courses must be completed before the start of ITL courses in May*
  • August - Praxis Testing must be scheduled prior to the start of field placement
*Students may be given permission to complete one outstanding requirement by August.

Official Transcripts

  1. Request Transcripts from Previous Institutions

    Official transcripts of undergraduate degree and graduate (if applicable) institutions attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to Colorado Mesa University.

Step 4

Letters of Recommendation

Three (3) letters of professional recommendation are required. Recommendations should address commitment to children and education, leadership potential, ability to work with others, knowledge of your experience working with children (required in at least one letter) academic abilities/scholarship. Letters may not be from family or relatives.
  1. Send Recommendation Request

    Recommendation requests should be sent to your references directly from CMUconnect. They will receive an email prompting further action. You will see a completed checklist item once the letter has been returned.

  1. Submit resume

    In a one page document, please include personal data (name, address, email, phone number); classroom experiences, work experiences, background information about teaching-type jobs, volunteering, etc.; education/certificates obtained. Upload file to your application in CMUconnect.

    In a one page document, please explain why you want to become a teacher, describe your vision of an ideal school, mentor teacher, and classroom; discuss your personal strengths and skills that will benefit the students and school; format appropriately (single spaced, professional)
