Transcript Evaluation - Required BEFORE Applying to Program

To determine if leveling courses are needed, a transcript evaluation must be completed prior to applying.

  1. Send copies of your (unofficial) transcripts to [email protected]
  2. Indicate which program you are interested in: Elementary; Secondary (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, or Spanish); or K12 Physical Education.
  3. Retain a copy of the evaluation.
  4. NOTE: The ITL program only offers summer (or early-start spring) admission

Please note, a 3.0 GPA is a prerequisite for all CMU graduate programs.*

ITL Application Packet

ITL Master of Arts in Education 

After obtaining licensure and the ITL Graduate Certificate, ITL students may pursue the additional graduate coursework to complete the Master of Arts in Education degree. An extra summer and fall semester are required to complete the MA. See the ITL Program page for more information.

Application & Placement Timeline

  • January 1st - Application submission & review period starts for the 2024-2025 ITL Program.
  • March 1st - Candidate notification of admission status begins.
  • April 1st - Priority application deadline for field placement.**
                        - Placement interviews begin; interviews need to be completed by 4th week of May.
  • May 15th - Last day to submit application materials for consideration for 2024 admission.
  • May 30th - Enrollment for 2024-2025 Initial Teacher Licensure Grad Cert ends.
                       - ITL Classes start. Outstanding prerequisites completed by the start of courses.***
  • August 1st - Praxis Testing must be scheduled prior to the start of field placement.
  • August 3rd - First day in field placement for teacher candidates placed in D51.

**ITL applications received after April 1st are subject to field availability & course capacity.
***Students may be granted permission to complete an academic prerequisite while enrolled in ITL courses.
Step 1

Application

A $50 application fee is collected when you submit your application.
Step 2

Official Transcripts

  1. Request Transcripts from Previous Institutions

    Official transcripts of undergraduate degree and graduate (if applicable) institutions attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to Colorado Mesa University.

Step 3

Letters of Recommendation

Three (3) letters of professional recommendation are required. Recommendations should address commitment to children and education, leadership potential, ability to work with others, knowledge of your experience working with children (required in at least one letter) academic abilities/scholarship. Letters may not be from family or relatives.
  1. Send Recommendation Request

    Recommendation requests should be sent to your references directly from the application portal. References will receive an email prompting further action. Once the reference letter has been received, it will display as a completed item on your application checklist.

Resume

  1. Submit resume

    In a one page document, please include personal data (name, address, email, phone number); classroom experiences, work experiences, background information about teaching-type jobs, volunteering, etc.; education/certificates obtained. Upload file in the application portal.

Letter of Interest

  1. Letter of Interest

    In a one page document, please explain why you want to become a teacher, describe your vision of an ideal school, mentor teacher, and classroom; discuss your personal strengths and skills that will benefit the students and school; format appropriately (single spaced, professional). This letter serves both as your statement of purpose for the graduate application and as a letter of introduction for your student teaching placement. As such, the letter should be addressed to School Administrator.
