What Is Research Misconduct?

Research misconduct occurs when research or scholarly work is deliberately misrepresented through fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism. CMU is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity and responsible scholarship. Misconduct can compromise the credibility of research, erode public trust, and misuse public or institutional resources. CMU has established clear policies and procedures to review concerns about possible research misconduct in a fair, confidential, and thorough manner, while protecting the rights of all individuals involved and complying with federal regulations and sponsor requirements.

CMU’s Research Misconduct Policy is available on the Office of Sponsored Programs Policies and Procedures webpage.
