We believe that high-quality course design is the foundation of meaningful learning. At the Center for Digital Learning & Innovation, our Instructional Design & Course Quality initiatives are focused on ensuring that every course—whether online, hybrid, or technology-enhanced—is accessible, engaging, and aligned with best practices and institutional standards.

Systematic Online Course Review Process

To promote continuous improvement, we are implementing a structured online course review process that is guided by CMU’s Quality Course Design Rubric.

CMU faculty may be eligible for a stipend to develop new online courses that meet institutional needs and pass internal review. Please see the New Online Course Development Stipend Guidelines for additional information.

Integrated Instructional Design Support

We are embedding instructional design (ID) support directly into the course development and revision process.

Master Courses for Consistency and Scale

To enhance consistency and scalability across programs, we are expanding the use of master course shells.

Commitment to Digital Accessibility

We are leading a campus-wide effort to ensure full digital accessibility compliance across all courses. Part of this includes the implementation of YuJa Panorama in all D2L courses.
