Answer:

About 40-50% of students who complete the FAFSA are randomly selected by the U.S. Department of Education for a process called verification. This just means our Financial Aid Office needs to confirm some of the information you submitted.

Verification is a normal step—not a sign anything is wrong or you did something incorrectly.

Important to know:

  • Verification is separate from the FAFSA and requires additional documents
  • Even if you used the IRS data tool, you'll still need to complete a verification worksheet
  • Any required items will appear in your My Tasks tab in MAVzone

What you'll do:

  1. Submit your FAFSA
  2. Check MAVzone for any verification or other requirements
  3. Upload the requested documents, which may include:
    • A Dependent or Independent Verification eForm
    • Student tax information
    • Parent or spouse information (if applicable)

Be sure to review your verification email for specific details.

What happens next:

  • A Financial Aid Counselor reviews your documents
  • If needed, they'll make updates to your FAFSA
  • Once everything is complete, your requirements will be cleared

Timeline:

After all documents are submitted, verification typically takes 1-2 weeks to process.
