First-Gen Jump Start

Students will work one-on-one with a First-Gen Navigator to:

• Complete any outstanding tasks
• Identify classroom buildings where their fall classes will be held
• Connect with critical campus offices like IRIS, Financial Aid, and the First-Gen+ Support Center
• Introduce students to campus clubs, organizations, and communities based on their individual interests and passions

Afternoon workshops will support students in developing important college success skills, including:

• Study skills, time management strategies, and finding time for yourself in college
• Advising, course planning, and building a comprehensive degree plan
• Managing financial aid deadlines, setting up payment plans, and securing scholarships throughout your college career.

First-Gen Jump Start is for students who:

• Graduated from a Western Slope high school, including schools in Mesa County Valley School District 51, in May 2025
• Neither parent or guardian has graduated with four-year college degree
• Are planning to enroll at Colorado Mesa University or Colorado Mesa University Tech in August 2025
