CMU Director of Mass Communication, teaches mainly news/editorial, print media and photography courses. He is faculty adviser for the Horizon student magazine. He has experience as a former newspaper editor, photographer, and public relations director at Oklahoma speedways in Tulsa and Muskogee. He has over three decades of full-time teaching experience at universities and colleges. Evers completed his Master's degree in Mass Communications at Murray (Ky.) State University, and has more than 60 hours of PhD courses at the University of Oklahoma. He has been with Colorado Mesa since 1989.

Associate Professor Dan Flenniken

Teaches public relations, advertising and television production classes. Previously taught Media Technology at the Bishop Campus. He has over 25 years in production and management for television stations and networks including Rocky Mountain PBS. He won an Emmy for educational television production in 2002. Previously he taught at State University of New York-Plattsburgh and the University of Colorado. He has been with Colorado Mesa in Mass Communication since 2005.

Assistant Professor Eric Sandstrom

Teaches writing/reporting, mass media impact and public affairs; serves as faculty advisor for the Criterion newspaper. He has worked for newspapers in Ohio, Illinois and Nebraska as a reporter, editor, photographer, columnist and sportswriter. He taught journalism ethics at Kent State University, and public relations at Cleveland State University. He has been at CMU since 2007. He was managing editor of publications for University Hospitals Case Medical Center. He has a BA and MA in English from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Sandstrom is the faculty advisor for Colorado Mesa University's SPJ Chapter.

Assistant Professor Regis Tucci

Teaches broadcast communication courses and is faculty advisor for KMSA-FM and CMU-TV. He has undergraduate and graduate degrees from Marshall University with doctoral courses from Bowling Green State University. Research interest includes broadcast history and international broadcast systems. Professional experience in radio, television, public relations, and advertising. He taught in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, and Mississippi before coming to CMU in the fall of 1999.

Instructor Steve Maxwell

Teaches Mass Comm 110 and Documentary Photography. He previously taught at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School. Maxwell has a BA in Organizational Management, an MFA in photography from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and course work at the Rhode Island School of Design, the Mass College of Art, and the Boston Institute of Art. He has 25 years experience as freelance commercial photographer specializing in the medical industry. His current documentary photography projects include: pictures and interviews at Homeward Bound, a local homeless shelter, night photographs of the U.S. power grid, and photographs of the effects of micro-burst wind on trees in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

responsibilities. Sharon served as Senior Vice President of Operations for Discovery Communications, Consumer Products Division. While working, she also was an adjunct instructor with the University of Cincinnati’s School of
Communication.

Karen Martsolf

Karen Martsolf is an adjunct instructor of Mass Communications. She graduated from Colorado Mesa in 1997 with a Mass Communications degree and a concentration in Public Relations (PR). She has over 15 years of sales, marketing and PR experience. She has been employed at the Mesa County Department of Health and Human Services since 2005 as the agency's Public Information Officer (PIO). Prior to that she spent over six years as the Sales, Marketing and Public Relations Manager at Powderhorn Ski Resort in Mesa, Colorado. She joined Colorado Mesa as an adjunct instructor in 2011.

Darcy Hall, a Colorado native, graduated with her AA in English from Mesa State College, BA in English Literature and Education from Loras College, and her MFA in Creative Writing Poetry from Queens University of Charlotte. She also earned her Certified Journalism Educator credential from the Journalism Education Association. She has taught journalism for over 15 years to students ranging from grade 8 through college. She teaches English and Mass Communications courses at Colorado Mesa University as well Palisade High School. Her students have won awards at the local, state, and national levels for journalism writing and design.

Greg Mikolai

Greg grew up on a farm in southern Minnesota. He graduated from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1984 with its first ever Bachelor of Arts degree in Television Production. Greg initially worked for WXOW-TV in La Crosse, Wisconsin, but later moved back to the Twin Cities to work as a video producer. He won several awards for his work there.
In 1993 Greg moved to Grand Junction, Colorado to work for KJCT-TV as production manager. Later he worked for 3D Systems as a technical writer and photographer. In 1999 Greg took the position of Production Coordinator for KRMJ-TV of Rocky Mountain PBS, located on the Unified Technical Education Campus. While at KRMJ-TV Greg produced Western Bounty, an art oriented program, along with Super School News. He worked on statewide productions for Rocky Mountain PBS. He also produced several documentaries on local issues, such as “The History of the Riverfront Commission.” His work garnered a number of Colorado Broadcasting Association awards.
In the spring of 2009, Greg began working on the documentary “The Colorado National Monument: Celebrating 100 Years of John Otto’s Dream.” The documentary premiered at the Avalon Theatre on November 18th, 2010. It won a Colorado Broadcasting Association award for Best Documentary. The documentary was also nominated for 3 Emmy Awards, and won for Best Program Photography and Best Program Editing. Greg Mikolai is the faculty advisor for CMU-TV. |
