Merit Scholarships

Colorado Mesa University Admissions Office

**Important:

  • Students applying for admission to Colorado Mesa University will automatically be considered for the following scholarships. Completing an additional application is NOT required.

  • International students and students with previous baccalaureate degrees are NOT eligible for these awards.

 

New Freshman Students

Academic Achievement Scholarship**

Value: $1,000 per year

Explanation:

Students applying for admission to Colorado Mesa University will automatically be considered for the following scholarships. Completing an additional application is NOT required.

Criteria:

  • Renewable scholarship (120 credit hour maximum).
  • Award is based on a combination of ANY TWO of the following three criteria:
    • 3.2 GPA
    • Top 20% of their class
    • *ACT score of 22, or *SAT score of 1040

 

Presidential Scholarship**

Value: $2,000 per year

Explanation:

Students applying for admission to Colorado Mesa University will automatically be considered for the following scholarships. Completing an additional application is NOT required.

Criteria:

  • Renewable scholarship (120 credit hour maximum)
  • Award is based on a combination of ANY TWO of the following three criteria:
    • 3.5 GPA
    • Top 15% of their class
    • *ACT score of 25, or *SAT score of 1120

 

Trustee Scholarship**

Value: $2,500 per year

Explanation:

Students applying for admission to Colorado Mesa University will automatically be considered for the following scholarships. Completing an additional application is NOT required.

Criteria:

  • Renewable scholarship (120 credit hour maximum)
  • Award is based on a combination of ANY TWO of the following three criteria:
    • 3.5 GPA
    • Top 10% of their class
    • *ACT score of 27, or *SAT score of 1200

 

Colorado Mesa University Distinguished Scholarship**

(Our most prestigious academic award for incoming Freshmen)

Explanation:

Students applying for admission to Colorado Mesa University will automatically be considered for the following scholarships. Completing an additional application is NOT required.

Value: Colorado resident tuition and student fees (available to Colorado residents only)

  • Renewable scholarship (120 credit hour maximum)
  • Award is based on a combination of ANY TWO of the following three criteria:
    • 3.75 GPA
    • Top 5% of their class
    • ACT score of 29, or SAT score of 1280

 

First Generation Scholarship

Explanation:

Students applying for admission to Colorado Mesa University will automatically be considered for the following scholarships. Completing an additional application is NOT required.

Value: $1,000 per year

  • Renewable scholarship (120 credit hour maximum).
  • Awarded to entering Western Colorado freshmen whose parents have not graduated from college.
  • Must be able to demonstrate financial need.
  • Award is based on a combination of ANY TWO of the following three criteria:
    • 2.5 GPA
    • Top 25% of their class
    • ACT score of 21, or SAT score of 970 SAT.*

 

Colorado Mesa University Foundation Scholarships for Freshmen

The CMU Foundation administers over $300,000 in private scholarships to nearly 260 students each year. These scholarships range from a cash stipend to full tuition and fees. Many of these scholarships require a separate application process and have specific requirements.

 

Transfer Students

Canyon Passage Scholarship

Value: $750 per year

Criteria:

  • Available to first-time transfer students coming to Colorado Mesa University.
  • Renewable for maximum of 120 semester credit hours, or until student obtains Baccalaureate degree.
  • Must have completed 13 to 90 semester credits.
  • Must have a 3.0 to 3.49 GPA.

 

Two Rivers Scholarship

Value: $1,500 per year

Criteria:

  • Available to first-time transfer students coming to Colorado Mesa University.
  • Renewable for maximum of 120 semester credit hours, or until student obtains Baccalaureate degree.
  • Must have completed 13 to 90 semester credits.
  • Must have a 3.5 to 4.0 GPA.

 

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Value: $2,400 for Colorado resident or WUE/M&P students / $3,000 for non-Colorado resident.

Criteria:

  • Available to first-time transfer students coming to Colorado Mesa University.
  • Renewable for maximum of 120 semester credit hours, or until student obtains Baccalaureate degree.
  • Must have completed 30 to 90 semester credits.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.2.
  • Must be a Phi Theta Kappa member transferring to CMU from an accredited two-year institution.
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from PTK advisor (submitted to Admissions Office).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Must not already possess a bachelor’s degree. 
  • If awarded, will replace Two Rivers or the Canyon Passage scholarship.

 

Alternative Tuition Programs

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)

Value: Colorado resident tuition plus 50 percent

Criteria:

  • Available to entering Freshmen or transfer students (13-90 semester credit hours) who are a resident of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Available for undergraduate course work only.

 

Mountains and Plains (M&P)

Value: Colorado resident tuition plus 50 percent

Criteria:

  • Available to entering Freshmen or transfer students (13-90 semester credit hours) who are a resident of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Available for undergraduate course work only.

 

** Students considered for any of the above Merit Scholarships or the Academic Achievement Scholarship must meet the following individual test score minimums (even if test scores are not one of the two criteria utilized for award):
