Spotlight- Joel Nicholson

"The drumline is my home, and I am so fortunate to have been able to be apart of such an incredible organization during my time in college. The Maverick Stampede is the biggest student organization on campus, and it is one of the coolest opportunities to be apart of a rapidly growing group and to be a leader as it grows. I have served as a section leader of the drumline for the last two seasons, and I am so proud of all the hard work and dedication each and every person has put in to make this season the best one yet. Go Mavs!"

Joel Nicholson is a senior at Colorado Mesa University. He will graduate in the Spring of 2019 with a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor in Percussion Performance. Upon graduating, he hopes to teach middle school band here in his hometown and teach and perform percussion as much as possible. He has played marching snare drum and marching bass drum in the Maverick Stampede for the past three years and served as section leader for two of the three seasons. He returned as bass drum section leader this year.

Joel is heavily involved not only in the Maverick Stampede but also in the Music Department, regularly participating in four to six ensembles each semester and serving leadership positions such as Treasurer of CMU's chapter of Collegiate National Association for Music Education, and President of CMU's chapter of Colorado Mesa University Percussion Society. In his free time, he likes to play video games, hang out with friends, and relax.
