The Maverick Sound is a high-energy pep band that performs for indoor athletic events during the beginning of the spring term. Joining is easy: just fill out this form!
All CMU students, regardless of major, are encouraged to participate. NO AUDITION IS REQUIRED for wind instruments.
The Maverick Sound is open to students who play these instruments:
- Flute
- Clarinet
- Saxophone (all types)
- Trumpet
- Mellophone
- Trombone
- Baritone
- Sousaphone
- Guitar*
- Electric Bass*
- Keyboard*
- Drums*
For the rhythm section auditions (bass, guitar, keyboard, drums): interested players will be asked to rotate to demonstrate their ability for different styles of music. Results will be posted/announced at the conclusion of the rehearsal. Please note - the rhythm section will be limited to a principal and an assistant for drums, keyboard, aux percussion, bass, and guitar.
Important Note: The single most important factor for this audition is ability to keep consistent time. The ideal Mav Sound rhythm section would be able to demonstrate rock, disco, funk, and march grooves, and moving from single time to half time without changing the tempo (as we do in Jam). However, most of the emphasis on the audition will be even flow of time.
