Loren Wilder teaches Theatrical Scenic and Lighting Design, guiding students through the visual language of theater — light, color, space, texture and movement. Her approach to teaching is experiential and colaborative, encouraging students not only to learn foundational skills but to understand why design choices matter and how they shape the emotional arc of a performance.
Her classes combine hands-on projects, script analysis, research, conceptual design and practial design experience. Students explore visual storytelling across scenic, lighting, costume and projection design while developing the technical skill, critical thinking and artistic vocabulary necessary to communicate their ideas effectively.
Wilder brings more than four decades of professional experience in theatre, live performance and production design to the classroom. Her creative practice spans scenic and lighting design, dance, multimedia performance, immersive environments, large-scale events and the development of original theatrical work. She is particularly interested in the intersection of visual storytelling, technolgy, human connection and the ways theatrical environments can shape an audience's experience.
Outside of the classroom, Wilder is a theater artist, production designer and writer. She is currently completing her first novel, Imagine NU·TOPIA while continuing to develop original work for theater and live performance.
She lives in Palisade, Colorado, with her husband Gordon and their assortment of four-legged creative assistants. When she is not designing or writing, Wilder can usually be found somewhere in the Colorado landscape.
