Kyle Wehmanen, PhD, is an Assistant Professor with a focus on Exercise Science and a unique interdisciplinary background. He holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Exercise Science from the University of Utah, a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technologyical University, and a PhD in Integrative Physiology from Michigan Tech. With this broad academic foundation, Wehmanen enjoys making interdisciplinary connections and showing students how knowledge gained in one subject can illuminate others.

Wehmanen's research interests have broadly focused on the energetics of human locomotion, (e.g., calories expended per kilometer traveled) for movement on soft variable terrain (e.g., snow). He is also interested in the physiological demands of ultra-endurance racing, especially in cold-weather environments. Wehmanen has also conducted research with pre-diabetic individuals, examining how specialized exercise interventions might improve health measures.

In his free time, Wehmanen enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking and exploring the outdoors. He also enjoys solving the New York Times crossword puzzles while drinking black coffee.
