2024


  • April 1st, 2024: State of the River- CO River: Grand Junction at CMU Meyer Ballroom. The state of the River convention highlighted current water projections for the 2024 year as well as several initiatives in the Upper Colorado River Basin. Topics including water supplies and updates from state agencies. 

 

2023

 

  • Oct 30-31, 2023: 2023 Upper Colorado River Basin Water Forum: The 12th annual forum was held t at Colorado Mesa University's UC Ballroom, in Grand Junction, CO. The forum theme was Reshaping the River: Reimagining Water Use & Management in the Upper Colorado River Basin. The forum had a diverse array of speakers from across the Colorado River Basin. Agenda topics included innovative agricultural water management practices, resilient riverscapes, updates from state agencies, unpacking and understanding diminishing water supplies, reauthorization of recovery programs, and networking events.

 

  • 2023 Natural Resources Seminar Course-The Hutchins Water Center has teamed up with Colorado Mesa University's Environmental Science and Technology department to present the 2023 Natural Resources Seminar Series. All encompassing, this course will cover topics related to natural resources in the Western US, including water, soil, land, mineral, and energy. Guest speakers are invited from industry, government agencies, and the academic community to give formal oral presentations followed by informal discussion with students, the community, and faculty.   • Apr 28, 2023: 2023 Water Center Education and Adventure Field Day -- The Hutchins Water Center has teamed up with the Outdoor Program to bring you a relaxing, fun day of BBQ and SUP at Connected Lakes! Speakers will present from Rivers Edge West and US Fish and Wildlife. Admission, gear, transportation, and food are FREE!
  • Apr 13, 2023: 2023 Mesa County State of the River - Join the Colorado River District and the Ruth Powell Hutchins Water Center for the Mesa County State of the River in Grand Junction at the CMU Ballroom.
  • Feb 15, 2023: 2023 Natural Resources Job Fair and Networking Event In collaboration with Career Services and the Fish & Wildlife Club, The Ruth Powell Hutchins Water Center invites you to participate in the 2023 Natural Resource Job Fair. Held in the University Center's Ballroom.

  • May 14, 2019: Mesa County State of the Rivers Meeting in CMU's University Center Ballroom. This meeting will provide you with an update on this year's snowpack, expected river flows and reservoir operations, as well as drought planning and information on an innovative project to help endangered fish in the Grand Valley. Co-sponsored by the Colorado River District

 

  • April 24, 2019: An Evening with Jonathan Thompson in CMU's University Center Ballroom. Jonathan Thompson is the author of River of Lost Souls, which tells the story behind the 2015 Gold King Mine disaster that turned the Animas River in southwestern Colorado orange with sludge.

 

 

  • Oct 23, 2018: Planning for an Uncertain Future: Drought Contingency Planning, Demand Management and the West Slope CMU University Center. 

 

  • Sept 21-23, 2018: Student Water Field Conference on the Grand Mesa in Western Colorado: a weekend learning about water with other college students from across Colorado.

  • Feb 13, 20 & 27, 2018: 2018 Water Course at CMU University Center Ballroom. The course covered Hydrology and Water Law in Colorado; Preparing for a Drier Future; and Grand Valley Initiatives to Improve Habitat and River Access. 

 

  • Feb 8-9, 2018: Workshop: Setting Watershed-Scale Priorities in Riparian Restoration at CMU University Center. This workshop is organized by the Center for Colorado River Studies at Utah State University and hosted by the Hutchins Water Center. 

 

  • Feb 6-8, 2018: Riparian Restoration Conference at CMU University Center. This conference is organized by the Tamarisk Coalition and hosted by the Hutchins Water Center.
