Suzie Garner arrived at CMU in 1994 where she developed a baccalaureate degree in Graphic Design. The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce recognized her teaching accomplishments in 2000 with the Educator of the Year Award.

As a practicing studio artist, she is an oil painter and avid sketchbook artist. She was awarded a sabbatical in 2006 and studied in Italy, developing a course in sketchbooks for the university. Recently, she has taken students on trips abroad to both Italy and France.

Garner's personal artwork has been exhibited nationally in Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Kansas, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Texas, Wyoming and throughout Colorado. Her sketchbook has been published in 1,000 Artist Journal Pages Personal Pages and Inspirations by Dawn DeVries Sokol. She is a featured sketchbook artist on and her personal sketchblog is listed as a resource in the Travel Sketches section on's Drawing/Sketching page.
