The Colorado Mesa University rodeo team will host The Northwestern Mutual Maverick Stampede Rodeo, presented by CoorsTek, on April 11–12, 2025 at the Mesa County Fairgrounds.
Numerous National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association-sanctioned teams will compete during the event with over 150 riders representing more than ten universities and colleges from around the west.
Festivities include the Rodeo Roundup, a free event, on Thursday, April 10, at 5 pm . This event includes the Steer Stroll, one of the most entertaining on-campus events of the year as the team drives a herd of cattle across campus. Also included is the Maverick Meat Up, a barbecue competition where President John Marshall participates in a smoked-meat contest.
The rodeo starts Friday, April 11. The first performance is at 6 pm with a Barrel Racing Slack to follow. General admission tickets are $15, VIP tickets are $70, children under 10 are free, and CMU students, staff and faculty are free with their MAVcard.
On Saturday, April 12 the rodeo kicks off at 9 am with a Timed Slack Event and a Royalty Clinic with Miss Rodeo Colorado, Sierra Southerland. The championship round is at 6 pm followed by a concert with Chris Peterson at 8 pm. General admission tickets are $20, VIP tickets are $70, children under 10 are free, and CMU students, staff and faculty are free with their MAVcard. The concert is free with a rodeo ticket or $10 at the door.
