Liberal Arts, Early Childhood Education

Associate of Arts

The associate of arts in liberal arts degree can function as a terminal degree or can function as a pathway into a baccalaureate degree in the humanities. The degree program meets the requirements of the Colorado Statewide General Education Core. A student who is granted this degree can transfer to any institution in Colorado and graduate in a baccalaureate degree program by taking no more than 60 hours from that institution.

The early childhood education program is for students seeking a career caring for young children from birth to age eight. Graduates find employment in large and small child care centers, open their own home care centers, work in school settings or continue their education.

With the increasing demand for quality early education, many employers require their staff to demonstrate a level of expertise provided by this degree program. The program meets state requirements for early childhood teacher certification and qualifies students to be a group leader and director as defined by the Colorado Department of Human Services. Faculty offer one-on-one guidance for course selection, field placements, student teaching and employment.

This degree is a springboard to transition into to CMU’s bachelor's degree program in elementary education licensure.
