As a medical assistant, you are an allied health professional who supports physicians, nurses and multidisciplinary hospital care teams by performing a blend of clinical and administrative functions. In a hospital setting, you play a vital role in maintaining efficient patient flow, supporting inpatient and outpatient services and contributing to safe, high-quality care across departments.

On-the-Job Learning:

4,000 required work hours

During this program, apprentices will develop proficiency in 114 essential skills under the guidance of an experienced mentor. These skills include workplace safety, HIPAA/confidentiality, customer service, electronic medical records and other hospital setting related skills. 

Related Technical Instruction:

559 required hours 

You will follow the course work for the Medical Office Assistance Technical Certificate. This includes 41 credit hours with CMU Tech. Apprentice hours will count for MA Internship hours. This course load can be completed in one year at full time student status. 

Certification

Graduates of the Apprenticeship Program receive a nationally recognized certificate through the Department of Labor and State Apprenticeship Agency. This certificate is recognized nationally to show demonstration of practical skills and knowledge required for the occupation.
