The Future of Machining: CMU Tech's Mechatronics Mobile Learning Lab

The future of machining is making its way to CMU Tech and rural communities on the Western Slope, thanks to a generous gift made by the Sturm Family and ANB Bank. CMU Tech's Mechatronics Mobile Learning Lab brings hands-on, industry-relevant training directly to schools, businesses, and communities across the Western Slope. The image shows a large mobile trailer parked in a paved parking lot with a clear blue sky overhead. The trailer is primarily maroon and white and is branded as the “Mobile Learning Lab.” On the far left side of the trailer, there is a large graphic of a robotic arm in black and white. In the center, there is an image of a person wearing protective safety goggles, looking upward, symbolizing innovation and hands-on learning. Beside this image, bold maroon letters read: “Mobile Learning Lab.” Beneath the text, it states: “Provided by The Sturm Family & ANB Bank.” On the far right of the trailer, the CMU Tech logo is prominently displayed in maroon and gold. The trailer sits on three axles with metal steps providing access to doors at both ends. The setting includes a green lawn in the foreground and a sidewalk running along the front of the trailer. The overall design emphasizes technology, mobility, and community education.Designed to make advanced technical education accessible, the lab is fully equipped with the latest tools and technology to provide real-world experience in:

  • Automation & Robotics

  • Electronics (AC, DC) & Electrical Systems

  • Mechanical Systems

  • Pneumatics & Hydraulics

  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)

By combining mechanical, electrical, and computer-based skills, the Mechatronics MLL prepares learners for high-demand careers in modern manufacturing, energy, and technology industries. Students will gain an understanding of how separate systems work together to make complex devices operate, and will learn how to build, fix, and run these systems.

Whether it’s used for K-12 education programs, workforce upskilling, or customized training for employers, the Mechatronics MLL delivers flexible, on-site education that meets students and professionals where they are.
