As a diesel mechanic, you are a skilled trades professional responsible for diagnosing, repairing and maintaining cars, trucks and other light-duty vehicles. Diesel mechanics use specialized tools, diagnostic equipment and technical expertise to ensure vehicles operate safely, efficiently and in compliance with manufacturer and industry standards.

On-the-Job Learning:

2,000 required work hours (paid)

During this program, apprentices will develop proficiency in 28 essential skills under the guidance of an experienced mentor. These skills include workplace safety, suspension and steering, breaks, electrical/electronic systems, engine performance and other related automotive skills.

Related Technical Instruction:

533 required hours 

You will follow the course work for the Diesel Mechanics Technical Certificate. This includes 35 credit hours with CMU Tech. This course load can be completed in one year at full time student status. 

Certification

Graduates of the Apprenticeship Program receive a nationally recognized certificate through the Department of Labor and State Apprenticeship Agency. This certificate is recognized nationally to show demonstration of practical skills and knowledge required for the occupation.
