This two-year program includes both traditional classes, and ground and flight training. Students graduate with a FAA certification as a private pilot, commercial pilot with instrument rating and as a flight instructor.

Due to the high demand for courses in this major, registering early is recommended for the best availability. If your major courses are not available, Student Services can help you build an alternative and applicable schedule.

Why choose the Aviation Technology – Fixed Wing program at CMU Tech?  

Classes are held at CMU Tech and the Grand Junction Regional Airport.

Students work with a certified flight instructor, providing individualized instruction and ensuring each student has the skills and knowledge necessary to become a safe and competent pilot.

The Aviation Technology program with a Fixed Wing emphasis goals are to prepare students for FAA certification as a commercial pilot with an instrument rating, and as a certified flight instructor. In addition, the program offers opportunities to enhance knowledge and expertise in the field of aviation by improving technical skills. Successful completion of the Aviation Technology program will also help prepare AAS students for bachelor's programs in aviation technology.

  • U.S. citizen
    • Photo ID: Birth Certificate and Driver's License OR Passport
  • Non-U.S. citizen
    • Complete the TSA’s Alien Flight Student Program (AFSP) vetting process
  • Successful completion of at least 2nd class flight physical with an FAA medical examiner
  • Student pilot license application
  • Background check

Application Process

Admission to the fixed wing program requires an application in addition to the CMU Tech admission application. There are additional expenses for students beyond tuition and fees to cover the costs for in-flight instruction.
