Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The privacy of all students attending a post-secondary institution (such as Colorado Mesa University or Western Colorado Community College) are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).  Post-secondary rules differ from secondary rules in that the privacy rights belong to the student only. This means that CMU and CMU Tech faculty and staff may be limited in the amount of information that they may share with parents or guardians without the student present. Students can submit a Student Authorized Release of Information by logging into MAVzone and clicking on "My Account." Next, select "Student" and click on the "Student Authorized Release of Information" link.  Fill out the information for the individual you would like to give permission and save your changes.
