Kelley Hastie earned a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University in 2000 as a student in their honors program. She also earned the Apprenti Cuisinier Award of Excellence for Technology, an annual award given to a single student for excellence in the area of food service technology.

Her culinary career includes positions in the largest casino in the country, large hotels and wedding venues, small gourmet bistros and restaurants. At these establishments, she was fortunate enough to gain experience in front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house operations as well as in a butcher shop, an up-scale sushi bar and a high-volume bakery.

She also earned a Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2006. Thereafter, she clerked in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division, for a year before practicing for 11 years as an associate, then partner, at a mid-sized law firm in the Complex Litigation Department.

In 2019, she left the practice of law to farm in western Colorado. While establishing the farm, she quickly discovered the wonderful culinary program at CMU Tech and was fortunate enough to join their instructional family, where she teaches culinary arts and introduction to agriculture courses.

Outside of teaching, she coaches soccer and basketball and spends time in the mountains. She loves this part of Colorado for the kindness of the people who live here and the beautiful weather.
