Growing up around agriculture, Shawnee Sagers developed a love for livestock, horses, farming and the people who make agriculture possible. Today, she brings that hands-on experience into the classroom, helping students connect what they learn to the real-world challenges and opportunities they may encounter in the agriculture industry.
With a background in communication and business management, Sagers found herself continually drawn back to agriculture. As a technical instructor of agriculture at Colorado Mesa University, she brings her experience together with her passion for agriculture, education and the Western way of life.
Outside the classroom, Sagers stays active in the rodeo community. She continues to compete in rodeos and ropings and spends her free time training and developing horses.
Her corgi, Ralphie, has appointed himself as an unofficial assistant and supervisor around the arena and classroom.
Sagers’ goal as an instructor is simple: Help students discover what they are capable of, give them the skills and confidence to pursue their goals and remind them there is a place for them in agriculture. She believes agriculture is about more than producing food. It is about people, community, stewardship, innovation and building a future worth investing in.
