A Message from the President

In the world today there is no better example of an organization that effectively works on social equity through equal opportunity than the Special Olympics.

The organization serves as a vehicle for making meaningful social change with outcomes that produce and sustain a better world. The Special Olympics teach all of us about tolerance and acceptance and help our society muster the fortitude necessary to stand up against injustice whenever and wherever it occurs.

Through the use of CMU’s facilities, and through the active role CMU plays on the Grand Junction Sports Commission, your university supports Special Olympics Colorado. The CMU natatorium, practice fields, stadiums and training facilities will all be used for Special Olympics Colorado's State Summer Games, June 7-9.

I want to personally encourage CMU faculty, staff, students and alumni to attend the opening ceremonies and events in June. A flier for the June 7 Opening Ceremonies, along with details about State Summer Games, can be found here.

Anyone from the CMU family who posts about their experience at any of the Olympic events on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter can stop by to get a gift from the President’s Office as well as be entered to win a Maverick Store gift card on me!

Also, Special Olympics Colorado is seeking volunteers. To invest your time in this wonderful cause, please visit here.

Capture your participation and support in a video or picture. Then, post it and tag @ColoradoMesaU and use #CMesaU or #CMesaUSpecialOlympics. I look forward to seeing your support of Special Olympics Colorado athletes, coaches, volunteers and families who make us all better by the truth they reveal about growth, health and what needs to be in the hearts of people.
