Community Hospital, the exclusive sports medicine provider of Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Athletics, announced it is deepening its commitment to CMU student-athletes with a four-year sponsorship of the new Stocker Stadium video board. The 28-foot-by-47-foot video board, coming fall 2027, will enhance the game-day atmosphere for CMU and Mesa County Valley School District 51 (D51) football games played at the stadium.
“This expanded partnership honors a long history. In the 1980s, Western Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and Community Hospital provided CMU’s first team doctor, Dr. Lary Copeland, and hired the first athletic trainer. Since then, Community Hospital has been a crucial partner in keeping our student-athletes safe and supported,” said CMU Director of Athletics Rob Courtney.
The announcement of this latest investment emphasizes Community Hospital's continued support for CMU Athletics. Community Hospital provides free sports physicals to D51 students and serves as the exclusive sports medicine provider for both CMU and D51, a consistent investment in local athletics and the young people who compete.
"We are extremely proud to support the new video board at Stocker Stadium,” said Community Hospital Board of Trustees Chair Dan Rubinstein. “This project underscores our commitment to supporting local student-athletes in our community. Community Hospital has had a longstanding partnership with CMU, and we are honored to champion this initiative,” added Rubinstein.
The partnership is an example of forming meaningful and mutually enriching partnerships that support the well-being and vibrancy of the community. It also puts CMU’s values into practice. Community Hospital’s care for student-athletes extends beyond the field, nurturing their growth and well-being, which embodies the value of love. The collaboration between CMU, Community Hospital and D51 shows the value of power, the strength to act collaboratively to achieve shared goals.
“The video board is a visible reminder of that partnership. It will create a true college football atmosphere for D51 and CMU alike,” Courtney stated.
The 1,316-square-foot Stocker Stadium video board will be the largest of its kind between Denver and Salt Lake City. It will bring student-athletes, fans and the community together on game days and give western Colorado a stage worthy of the student-athletes who play on it.
