A new era of Maverick Football kicks off with the "Building Maverick Champions" campaign
Colorado Mesa University athletics is proud to announce the “Building Maverick Champions” campaign, a long-term effort dedicated to investing in championship-level athletic facilities, operational support and gameday experiences for all of CMU Athletics.
The pilot campaign, a partnership with the City of Grand Junction, is centralized around creating a new student-athlete and fan experience at CMU’s Stoker Stadium. The campaign includes numerous new sponsorship and naming opportunities for CMU partners and supporters.
In the coming year, CMU will invest in Maverick Football — CMU’s longest-standing athletic team — by making several additions and improvements to Stocker Stadium for the benefit of the program, the community and Maverick fans.
Funds raised during the campaign will make incredible gameday experiences for not only CMU student-athletes and fans, but also for the high school teams who will continue to call Stoker Stadium their home field.
Maverick Champion Football investments include:
- New end zone building to house the CMU Football program. The building will include professional spaces for coaches, meeting and film rooms, student-athlete and coaches’ locker rooms and an athletic training room.
- A hospitality space and party deck for premium gameday experiences and special events.
- Renovations to the Lincoln Park Barn, transforming the interior into a modern strength and conditioning center and weight room.
- A new video board to make sure viewing from all areas of the stadium is more accessible to Maverick fans. It will be the largest video board between Denver and Salt Lake City.
The improved stadium will be a highly trafficked community asset that will host more than 100 events per year and approximately 500,000 annual guests. Investing in the venue supports other community efforts like the mission of the Grand Junction Sports Commission and other community partners who continue to benefit from CMU’s first-in-class athletic facilities.
Most recent investments in CMU Athletics have included the Bus Bergman Sports Complex, which established CMU’s own baseball facility and track and field arena. The Football program is CMU’s oldest team, having started in its inaugural year back in 1925. As campus enrollment continues to increase alongside the growth of the Grand Junction community, investing in the long-term future is as important as ever.
The “Building Maverick Champions” will be the largest capital initiative in CMU Athletics’ history and will secure CMU as a college athletics leader in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and beyond.
