From the Plaza to the Fairgrounds, Rodeo Round-Up Week returns to Colorado Mesa University April 15-18, bringing campus and community together through live rodeo action. Experience the tradition and pride of CMU’s rodeo program with a kickoff celebration on the Plaza, an inclusive rodeo experience and two nights of competition at the Mesa County Fairgrounds.
“The Rodeo Round-Up is a great opportunity for newer students to experience a tradition they may not have been exposed to yet,” said Branden Edwards, head coach of CMU Rodeo. “It builds the momentum going into the rodeo weekend and helps bring the community together. It gives people a chance to experience the energy of the rodeo firsthand—something you really can’t replicate.”
Festivities begin Wednesday, April 15, with the Rodeo Round-Up Kickoff Party and Maverick Meat-Up on the Plaza at 5 p.m. The event will include free food and beverages, a cash bar and a live remote broadcast from Moose Country radio. Attendees can also enjoy the CMU Rodeo team’s traditional annual steer stroll as the team celebrates its home rodeo.
On Thursday, April 16, CMU will host its Annual Exceptional Rodeo, welcoming students from area high schools with developmental disabilities to the Mesa County Fairgrounds for a hands-on, low-impact rodeo experience. CMU students will lead activities such as roping lessons and interactive stations alongside partners from Grand Valley Equine Assisted Therapy and JR Carriage Services.
Ride the energy into the weekend at the Mesa County Fairgrounds as the Maverick Stampede Rodeo takes place Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the rodeo beginning at 6 p.m. each evening.
Friday night tickets are $20 for general admission and $70 for VIP, with children 10 and under admitted free. Saturday night tickets are $25 for general admission and $70 for VIP, with children 10 and under also free. All Saturday rodeo tickets include free admission to a post-rodeo concert featuring the Sean Moon Band in the covered CW Arena.
