CMU Tech leaned into the centennial celebration mood by hosting the CMU Tech Then and Now Tour
As part of CMU’s 100th anniversary celebrations, CMU Tech hosted a special tour that took attendees back in time. The event showcased how far technical and vocational education has come over the past 100 years.
The CMU Tech Then and Now Tour was held on the Bishop Campus. The event invited guests to step back in time and explore the evolution of trades and technical programs since Grand Junction Junior College was created in 1925. Since the beginning, technical and vocational education has been a pillar of CMU’s history, and it remains a core provider for workforce development on the Western slope.
Each stop along the tour highlighted a different area of study found at CMU Tech — from welding and machining to aviation, film production, culinary arts and EMT training — giving visitors an interactive look at the “then” and “now” of each trade, whether it has been a program offering at CMU Tech since the beginning or not. The event served as an open house where guests could connect directly with instructors and students, observe demonstrations and explore CMU Tech’s facilities that are filled with cutting-edge technology.
Reflections like the CMU Tech Then and Now Tour have been a key focal point of the CMU Centennial Celebration. Upcoming, CMU main campus will put on a similar event, the Academic Passport Open House. The event on CMU's main campus will be free and open to the public, allowing attendees to stamp their passport at different programs and department presentations that highlight the history of traditional academics.
Through it all, CMU has been dedicated to training skilled professionals for the workforce and offering applicable, hands-on education that benefits the local community and meets the needs of Grand Valley’s people and businesses.
