Alumni work featured in newest exhibition at 437CO gallery

Found: A National Juried Exhibition

The Colorado Mesa University Department of Art & Design presents FOUND, a juried exhibition of works by CMU alumni from across the country, in the downtown art gallery from July 5 to Aug. 23.

The exhibition is hosted by 437CO, Colorado Mesa University's downtown art gallery and the CMU Art and Design Alumni Chapter.

From over 80 entries, juror John Anglim selected 35 pieces that embodied the spirit of “found,” which is defined as “having been discovered by chance or unexpectedly.”

The call for submissions was open to all CMU alumni living in the United States, and exhibiting artists represent all areas and departments of the university from studio art and visual design, to engineering, humanities, social sciences, theatre and music, business, and physical and earth sciences.

“While many of the artists are alumni of the Department of Art & Design, for quite a few artists, this is their first experience exhibiting in an art gallery," said Gallery Director Meghan Bissonnette. "This show truly embodies the idea that art and creativity are for everyone; you don’t need to have formal training to be creative. It is also fantastic to see the connection that alumni have to the university.”

There is $300 in awards with a first place award of $200, bragging rights, custom pencils, stickers and swag from the gallery's sponsors. Winners will be announced at the July 5 opening reception. 437CO and the CMU Art & Design Alumni Chapter acknowledge the generous support of the CMU Alumni Association for this exhibition.

On Friday, July 5 from 5-8pm there will be a public reception to view the exhibit with a talk by the juror and an announcing of awards scheduled for 5:30pm. Wine from Carlson Vineyards and beer from Palisade Brewing Company will be available for purchase at the reception. For more information, call the Department of Art & Design at 970.248.1833, or visit their website.
