CMU music and musical theatre students round out semester with awards

National organization issues more than ten commendations for students during National Association of Teachers of Singing event

Students from Colorado Mesa University majoring in either music or musical theatre competed in Ft. Collins, Colorado, in the 57th Annual National Association of Teachers of Singing Colorado and Wyoming Chapter adjudications competition.

The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging the highest standards of singing through excellence in teaching and the promotion of vocal education and research both for professional advancement of the talented and the enrichment of the general public. With over 7,000 members in the United States, Canada and over 24 foreign countries, NATS is the largest association of teachers of singing in the world.

CMU Professor Christopher Z. McKim, DMA, supported students during the event and praised their performances.  

“We had outstanding success as 11 out of 22 CMU students made final rounds and received awards," said McKim. “Such robust success in a regional competition highlights the quality of our students as well as CMU’s programs and teaching. Congratulations to these students as well as the faculty that helped them prepare.”

The 11 awards included:

-Honorable Mention Ariana Hudson, student of Carol Ann Niles 

Second Year College/Independent Studio Women

-2nd Ashley Troester, student of Stefanie Anduri 

Second Year College/Independent Studio Music Theater Women

-1st Tilly Leeder, student of Christopher Z. McKim 

-Honorable Mention Taniall Scroggins, student of Carol Ann Niles 

-Honorable Mention Heather Porterfield, student of Christopher Z. McKim 

Third/Fourth/Fifth Year College/Indep. Studio Music Theater Women

-1st Brooklyn Buhre, student of Christopher Z. McKim
