Little Mavs Learning Center opens applications for summer and fall semester

Enhanced facilities and expanded offerings promise quality childcare services for students, employees and community

Grand Junction – On March 1, 2019 CMU’s expanded childcare facility will accept applications for the 2019 summer and fall terms. As a result of the expansion, CMU is taking additional children, including for the first time, infants. “Helping students and employees enrich their family life while serving the mission of higher education is the primary reason for CMU’s childcare center,” said CMU President Tim Foster. “Moving forward, the expanded, on-campus childcare services should result in fewer CMU working parents filling up childcare slots elsewhere in the community.”

On December 14, 2018, the Buell Foundation approved a grant to the CMU Foundation that expanded infant and childcare support programs at CMU. The additional infant and toddler slots, created in part from the expansion, will be open to serving community childcare needs once student and employee needs are fulfilled.

Carley Maher, a CMU graduate and current CMU employee, encourages students and staff to consider the campus childcare program as an option.

“The staff at Little Mavs make the work-life balance we all seek a little easier to achieve,” said Maher. “The on-campus location and the wonderful staff and facilities allow me to pursue my career knowing my Little Mav is learning close by.”

Cindy Lawton, Director of Little Mavs announced that “in addition to infant care we are also offering expanded school age options. we recognize the CMU family is large, diverse and represents people in all stages in life. We want to offer services that address as many of these needs as possible. The new capacity we have created is exceptional in that regard.”

Students, faculty, staff and community members interested in applying should visit the Little Mavs website. Parents whose children are currently enrolled must also complete an application for summer and/or fall 2019 for consideration.

Applications are also available at the center located at 1704 N 8th Street in Grand Junction. Applications must be submitted by April 12 for priority consideration. Slots will be filled by students first, with any remaining slots filled by faculty/staff and community, in that order. The Center will continue to take applications on an ongoing basis. Parents are encouraged to apply early as schedules can be modified until placements are made in late April. Applications are being accepted for all age groups for both 2019 Summer and/or Fall 2019 terms.

Parents are encouraged to call 970.248.1318 for more information.
