CMU welcomes parents, families and students to Grand Junction, Colorado for Parents’ Weekend, presented by Canvas Credit Union
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Colorado Mesa University will welcome parents and families to campus Sept. 18–20 for Parents’ Weekend, presented by Canvas Credit Union. The annual weekend gives families an opportunity to reconnect with their students, experience campus life and explore the Grand Valley.
From Maverick athletic games to campus activities and local attractions, families can build their own weekend itinerary while getting a closer look at the place their students call home.
Great West Beer Fest
Friday, Sept. 18 | 4 pm – 10 pm | Delta Intramural Field
Enjoy a wide variety of craft beer and other beverages, along with food trucks, games and door prizes.
All proceeds benefit CMU clubs. When purchasing your ticket, enter the name of the club you would like your purchase to support. Admission includes a tasting glass.
Attendees consuming alcohol must be 21 or older.
Parents’ Barbecue
Friday, Sept. 18 | 4 pm – 8 pm | The Plaza
Parents, families and students are invited to meet in the Plaza for a special welcome barbecue. Enjoy a variety of local food trucks and get a taste of the campus experience students have enjoyed during the first month of school. This is a free event.
Movie Night: Coco
Friday, Sept. 18 | 8:30 pm – 10 pm | Elm Avenue Quad
Join the Latino Student Alliance for a screening of the Disney-Pixar movie Coco. In Coco, 12-year-old Miguel is magically transported to the Land of the Dead on Día de los Muertos after secretly pursuing his dream of playing music. Bring blankets, lawn chairs and the whole family for this free event.
Arcadia Football Squares
Saturday, Sept. 19 | 12 pm – 4 pm | University Center, Arcadia
Attendees of Parents’ Weekend, presented by Canvas Credit Union, can stop by Arcadia on Saturday, Sept. 19, for a tour of the on-campus arcade. The person who most closely guesses the outcome of the Maverick football game will win a prize.
Paddleboarding with the Outdoor Program
Saturday, Sept. 19 | 1 pm – 5 pm | 1601 Riverfront Drive, Grand Junction, CO 81501
Try your hand at a favorite activity in the Grand Valley! The Butterfly Pond is a great spot for beginners and experienced paddlers alike to enjoy a day on the water. The CMU Outdoor Program will guide the trip. Pre-registration is required, but the activity is free.
Water Polo CWPA Rocky Mountain Division Competition
Saturday, Sept. 19 | 1:10 pm – 3 pm | Maverick Center, El Pomar Natatorium
Parents’ Weekend will feature a special competition in El Pomar Natatorium. Come cheer on the Mavericks during a two-day CWPA Rocky Mountain Division competition. CMU Water Polo will face CU Boulder, University of New Mexico, Colorado State University, University of Utah and Colorado School of Mines.
Maverick Football Tailgate
Saturday, Sept. 19 | 3:00 pm – 5:45 pm | Stocker Stadium
The Programming and Activities Council and the Cultural Inclusion Council will welcome parents, families and students to the FCI Premium Tailgate. This week’s theme is Tourist, so deck out in your favorite vacation destination wear. This is a free event.
Maverick Football vs. Western Colorado
Saturday, Sept. 19 | 6 pm – 9 pm | Stocker Stadium
The weekend culminates with a rivalry matchup as the Mavericks take on Western Colorado at Stocker Stadium. Parents and families can cheer alongside the Mavily while enjoying a night of college football. Canvas Credit Union and CMU Athletics will also host a T-shirt giveaway before the game for the first 500 fans.
