CMU Celebrates America 250-Colorado 150 milestone with flag ceremony on Aug. 1
Colorado Mesa University invites the community to commemorate two historic milestones during the Colorado Day: 150–250 Flag Ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 10 am. The event will honor Colorado's 150th anniversary of statehood and the nation's 250th anniversary of independence with the unveiling of a new 150-foot flagpole, gifted to CMU by the Davis family.
The celebration, supported by Timberline Bank, will feature the first official raising of a 40-by-80-foot American flag alongside a 34.552-by-54.295-foot Colorado flag spanning 1,876 square feet, a tribute to the year Colorado became a state.
The ceremony will begin with the presentation of colors by the Central High School JROTC, followed by a tribute honoring local veterans. Musical performances by the 4th Infantry Division Band and the patriotic ensemble Sentimental Journey will provide a fitting soundtrack to the celebration.
Following the ceremony, guests are invited to gather in the Plaza for lunch beginning at 11:30 am, featuring complimentary VanWinkle Ranch hot dogs while supplies last.
The event is free and open to the public, but an RSVP to the event is encouraged.
Colorado Mesa University's Colorado Day: 150–250 Flag Ceremony is an official America 250-Colorado 150 committee commemoration, recognizing the simultaneous celebration of Colorado's sesquicentennial and the United States' semiquincentennial. The event will honor the people, traditions and values that continue to shape Colorado and the nation.
