Mavs Take Over the Mountain Returns to Powderhorn Jan. 31

A Mountain Day Made for Mavericks

Mavs Take Over the Mountain returns to Powderhorn Mountain Resort on Saturday, Jan. 31, bringing the Maverick spirit back to the slopes for one of CMU’s most anticipated winter traditions.

“Mavs Take Over the Mountain is one of my favorite CMU traditions because it shows just how powerful the Mavily truly is,” said Manager of Student Life Operations Gabe Simon. “Whether it’s a student experiencing Powderhorn for the first time or a seasoned regular, it’s an event that shows we are more than what you see on campus.”

From 9 am to 4 pm, CMU students and alumni will receive a special event-only discount and are invited to take over the mountain for a day packed with music, exciting giveaways, a scavenger hunt and more.

Throughout the day, student DJs will bring music to the deck outside the main lodge, while KMSA keeps the energy going at the top of the mountain. To make the experience accessible to all, buses will gather at the Outdoor Program to transport students to and from Powderhorn, giving those without vehicles the opportunity to enjoy a day on the slopes. Attendees can also take advantage of discounted lift tickets and a $50 learn-to-ski or board package. Swag bags will be hidden across the mountain, and the annual beanie giveaway will round out the day.

“Seeing your friends and making new friends is what makes it all worth it to me,” said Simon. “Powderhorn is such a gem to the community but seeing the extra Maverick flair Mavs Take Over the Mountain brings to the day warms my heart.”

This annual tradition continues to bring the CMU community together in a way that goes beyond the slopes. As students and alumni gather once again at Powderhorn, the day offers connections, community and Maverick spirit.
