Orchard Mesa Cruisers raised $13,800 through the third annual Andy Smith Memorial Golf Tournament, helping grow the scholarship endowment to $89,697
Three years into the Andy Smith Memorial Golf Tournament, Smith’s family, friends and members of the community are continuing to gather in his memory.
This summer, 100 golfers signed up for the third annual tournament, hosted by Orchard Mesa Cruisers, raising $13,800 for the Andy Smith Memorial Scholarship Endowment at Colorado Mesa University.
The amount raised through the tournament has continued to grow each year, helping build an endowment that will support Mesa County students who have demonstrated resilience in their own lives.
“His belief was that a life’s value is not measured by its length but by its impact,” said CMU President John Marshall in a tribute to Smith shared after his passing.
With this year’s $13,800 contribution from the golf tournament, the endowment has grown to $89,697, with over $35,000 of that total raised by Orchard Mesa Cruisers.
The scholarship is open to students from Mesa County who have demonstrated resilience in their own lives, connecting future recipients to a quality Smith showed throughout his time at CMU.
As the tournament continues to grow, so does the community coming together to support future students in Smith’s memory.
