Building a human scale university takes time and can only be achieved through intentional cultivation and creative implementation. In her role as Director of Leadership Development and Training, Lorraine Call helps advance the university’s vision of creating a world that we want to see right here at CMU.
The Maverick Leadership Academy is a program designed to equip and strengthen CMU leaders. While many courses in the academy are currently in development, one digital course, the Maverick Leader Success Series, is already producing trained leaders.
The Maverick Leader Success Series provides self-paced modules that help campus leaders lead effective teams, build accountability and empower employees to succeed in their roles. Three CMU leaders have already completed the 15 modules and half of all campus leaders are currently enrolled in the series.
“Through this course I’ve developed skills and knowledge that are helping strengthen my leadership on campus,” said Director of Distance and Online Education Jennifer Pacheco. “Delegate & Elevate and Leading with Expectations Strategies really pushed me, but they ended up being some of the most rewarding lessons I’ve learned as a leader.”
Through CMU’s leadership training, leaders can expect to gain a comprehensive view of the CMU vision, learn how to animate the seven core values in their everyday lives and be equipped in CMU's leadership and management practices.
“The Maverick Leadership Academy is one way we’re going to build a human scale university and it’s by fostering it through our leaders,” said Call.
Another offering of The Maverick Leadership Academy is a group coaching called “Great Boss Conversations,” which supplements the Maverick Leader Success Series. Leaders meet with Call twice monthly to discuss practical implementation within their teams and how to become the best leaders that they can possibly be.
Call encourages all leaders to sign up and attend training sessions as well as participate in the leadership development digital modules currently available to promote a Human Scale University, in Grand Junction and beyond.
