The Rowdy Roadshow kicks off CMU’s new Alumni and Career Services partnership, creating fresh opportunities for businesses to connect with future talent and employment resources
Colorado Mesa University (CMU) prides itself on having programs that not only help students while in school but also provide opportunities after college. Career Services and the Alumni Association were both dedicated to networking and career development outside of the classroom. When they decided to combine last year, many opportunities and events came along with it.
The Rowdy Roadshow began as an idea from a respected board member to strengthen community involvement and engagement for students through local businesses. The event also served as a formal reveal of the new Alumni and Career Services office.
Professionals across the Grand Valley were invited to witness this introduction and to begin the steps to work closely with the Alumni and Career Services office. The overall goal of The Rowdy Roadshow is to expand partnerships with employers and maintain quality connections with businesses already involved.
“We reached out to a wide range of industries including hospitality, construction, non-profits, small businesses, financial services, real estate and healthcare,” said Executive Director of Alumni Engagement and Career Services Sean Rubalcaba. “We’ve also worked to strengthen our relationship with local chambers, including Grand Junction, Fruita and Palisade.”
The jump from college to real-world careers can be difficult for students, so programs like this are an essential part of CMU. As a result of the Roadshow, the Alumni and Career Services office is working on targeting industry-specific events for students who are looking for specific career networking opportunities. Due to the tight-knit community in and around Grand Junction, many businesses are eager to build relationships with current and graduating students. This is shown through the Rowdy Roadshow and other networking events like career fairs and Industry Power Hours.
Colorado Mesa University’s Alumni and Career Services office is proud to invite businesses to attend a plethora of events they put on year-round. From networking opportunities to job fairs, support for CMU students and alumni has been seen as a strong service to everyone involved. Their mission is to “Connect Mavericks to purpose, opportunity, and one another,” which is best achieved by working together.
Sean Rubalcaba looks forward to the next Roadshow event and encourages local businesses to tap into their services.
“By joining the Rowdy Roadshow, you’ll support student success, strengthen your company’s relationship with CMU and build a pipeline of future talent,” he said.
