State Fire Agency To Hold Special Event at Colorado Mesa University in Honor of Community Risk Reduction Week 2023

The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) and Colorado Mesa University have partnered to take part in Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Week. Community Risk Reduction is a process to identify and prioritize local risks, followed by the integrated and strategic investment of resources to reduce their occurrence and impact. CRR Week aims to raise awareness of local risks across Colorado and teach communities how they can reduce those risks.

“The most progressive public safety agencies are actively working to reduce risk by implementing Community Risk Reduction programs; like we see in Mesa County, agencies are shifting their stance on risk from reactive to proactive—ensuring that the community they serve is safer and more resilient,” said Colorado Department of Public Safety Executive Director Stan Hilkey. “It’s no surprise to me that all of my Mesa County friends are doing such good work. I’m so grateful for their participation in this Community Risk Reduction Event and their partnership with the CO Department of Public Safety.”

Join CMU, state, regional and local agencies for a fun, interactive day to learn more about how to identify and reduce risks to yourself and the broader community. The day will include meet and greets with state and local officials, a burn trailer, helicopter, rappelling and more.
