Colorado Mesa University dance majors Rena Ruiz and Mallory Christopher performed during the 2023 American College Dance Association Northwest Regional Conference and were selected to advance to a performance in the culminating Gala Concert. The work they performed, Shadows and Light, choreographed by Kathy Diehl, Dance Program Director and Assistant Professor, was adjudicated by a panel of three internationally recognized dance artists and selected among 40 adjudicated works by faculty, guest artists, and students, for presentation in the Gala Concert.

The concert featured ten other pieces from regional college programs and it is a tremendous honor to be included in this final performance and recognized in this way. The adjudicators commented that the duet was “mesmerizing, hypnotic, meditative and honest” and described the dancers as “beautiful, intuitive and delicate.” One of the adjudicators, Gerri Houlihan, stated, “This work was exactly what I wanted and needed….it stayed with me long after.”

Congratulations to the dance program for their incredible achievement at ACDA 2023. Learn more about dance at CMU.
