Coca-Cola representatives present a $10,000 check to the Colorado Mesa Mavericks

Every year, Brownson Arena becomes a sea of white as Colorado Mesa University students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members pack the stands to watch the annual Blizzard in Brownson basketball game.

This year’s Blizzard in Brownson was sponsored by Coca-Cola and focused on showcasing the university’s sustainability efforts. Representatives from CMU’s Sustainability Council tabled the event passing out reusable bags, which were printed with a QR code and the words “This bag pays!” Attendees who scanned the QR code received a free can of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar.

Everyone’s favorite mascots, Rowdy the Maverick and the Coca-Cola polar bear were also in attendance cheering on both the women’s and men’s teams.

During the women’s halftime, CMU’s Student Life hosted a half-court shot which student Declan Wiesner successfully made, winning himself a Coca-Cola branded cooler.

At men’s halftime, Swire Coca-Cola presented a $10,000 giant check to the Colorado Mesa Mavericks which was received by CMU student-athletes, athletics and leadership representatives. This donation is already benefiting student-athletes by providing them with scholarship funding.

Ultimately, both teams walked away with a W. Women’s finished 64-62 and men’s 83-63 against University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
