Nexus Licensing Group and Game Changer Licensing Team up to support the CMU Mavericks

Colorado Mesa University is proud to announce a new partnership with two companies that will increase CMU’s presence in the retail marketplace and increase the availability of CMU merchandise to the university's growing fanbase in Western Colorado and beyond. The partnership will boost Maverick spirit through innovative branding and retail partnerships.

Nexus Licensing Group will provide full-service trademark licensing management and advisory services for CMU. The company helps its partners generate more merchandise availability for alumni, students and fans by expanding online and retail opportunities. The Nexus team is led by industry experts and former athletic directors and commissioners who know the irreplaceable value of working with clients on campus to best understand and execute their best opportunities for growth.

"We look forward to partnering with CMU to generate more merchandise availability for their alumni, students and fans by expanding online and retail partnerships,” said Principal and Managing Director of Nexus Brian Young. “Nexus was founded to give collegiate institutions a personalized and strategic approach to managing their licensing programs, and we believe Colorado Mesa is a perfect fit for this model. Our operations and marketing team, combined with Tim Potter’s work on the ground in the Colorado marketplace will bring about some exciting programs and initiatives as we work to expand the Maverick brand.”

Tim Potter is the founder of Game Changer Licensing, a company that helps schools optimize the day-to-day growth of their licensing programs by leveraging strong connections in the major retailer space.

"I'm pleased that CMU is working to move their brand forward, and I am excited to have the confidence of CMU in the role I will play in that effort,” said Potter. “CMU has an excellent brand that is primed for growth and Game Changer Licensing looks forward to the opportunity to work with the Maverick community and make a difference for CMU moving forward."

As CMU’s academic offerings continue to diversify and athletic programs grow and collect national championship titles, CMU has also gained momentum when it comes to brand partnerships. In addition to the on-campus Maverick Store and its retail and online offerings, CMU has branding partnerships with Under Armour and Coca-Cola and currently offers apparel in Target, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods and other national retail outlets throughout western Colorado.

“As retail partners like Dick’s Sporting Goods continue to offer our merchandise for Maverick fans, we are excited to explore how we can work with them to also support the broader community where their corporate values might align with our mission as a university,” said CMU Vice President for Communications David Ludlam. “We’re confident that this new agency partnership will take this momentum and elevate our brand to the next level and beyond.”
