CMU theatre opens 2019-20 season with musical comedy "First Date"

CMU's Department of Theatre Arts is set to begin its 2019-20 Theatre and Dance Season titled A 50th Anniversary: Inquiry, Discovery, Celebration, in recognition of the construction in 1969 of the current performing arts building, now called the Moss Performing Arts Center. The theatre department will kick off the season with the contemporary musical comedy, First Date. The show will open on Thursday, September 19, and will run for two weekends.

When blind date newbie Aaron is set up with serial-dater Casey, a casual drink at a busy New York restaurant turns into a hilarious high-stakes dinner. As the date unfolds in real time, the couple quickly finds that they are not alone on this unpredictable evening. In a delightful and unexpected twist, Casey and Aaron’s inner critics take on a life of their own when other restaurant patrons transform into supportive best friends, manipulative exes and protective parents, who sing and dance them through ice-breakers, appetizers and potential conversational land mines.

The musical contains some mild language and adult themes. Tickets are available online.
